Which Courthouse Handles a Foreclosure in Coaldale

Knowing where your file lives makes the process a great deal less abstract.

Foreclosures in Alberta are heard in the Court of King's Bench. A lender cannot sell your home without going through the court, and for Coaldale that means Lethbridge Courthouse, 320 4 St S.

Title work runs separately, through Land Titles South. Land Titles has been slow since the counters closed to walk-ins in September 2025, with registrations reported taking around a hundred days, so build that into any plan with a deadline in it.

A little about Coaldale

A town in Lethbridge County, 11 km east of Lethbridge on the Crowsnest Highway. The McCain Foods processing plant, Parrish & Heimbecker grain operations and tourism — including the Alberta Birds of Prey Centre — anchor the local economy. The population is about 8,771.

Food processing and grain handling are steady employers until they are not. When a single large plant adjusts its shifts in a town this size, it is felt across many households in the same month.

What actually happens

Less than people fear. Much of a foreclosure is documents rather than hearings, and an undefended claim moves through its stages without anyone standing up in a courtroom. That is also the risk — the process advances whether or not you engage, so engaging is how you keep a say in it.
